Networking on a budget
Good rooms exist at every price, including free. This guide explains how to read cost on this guide, and how to confirm what you will actually pay before you commit.
How cost is shown on this guide
Every group profile carries a cost strip with a fixed vocabulary. As shown on live profiles:
- Unknown cost: no public cost was established. Do not assume free.
- Cost varies, confirm: the record shows mixed or conflicting cost signals. Read the profile before you go.
- Free: the organizer states no charge.
- Free trial visits, Free, signup required, No membership fees, Per-event tickets, no separate dues: free with a stated condition. Read the condition.
- A dollar figure, for example $200/year: the figure as published on the organizer source, with its check date.
- Cost unconfirmed: one organizer source: the figure was checked against the organizer's own page, but no second source confirmed it. Treat it as a lead, not a guarantee.
- Cost overview token (free, mixed, paid, unknown): a one-word summary of the cost picture on the card. Read the strip for the detail.
What the cost strip does not tell you
The strip shows what the organizer publishes. It does not show what you will pay at checkout after add-ons, guest fees, or annual billing. When the record shows a conflict, the profile shows both versions and picks no winner.
Examples from verified records
- AFCC Oregon: individual dues $160 national plus $40 Oregon chapter, $200/year. Cost unconfirmed: one organizer source. Checked Oct 17, 2026 against the organizer membership page.
- eWomenNetwork Portland: the posted Essential tier ($19.95/month plus $357 initiation) conflicts with the current Join page, which shows a CEO+ tier and no Essential pricing. Conflicting sources, Oct 17, 2026. The profile shows both. Confirm before you pay.
- EPOP Last Tuesday (Oct 27): $5 single ticket. Checked Oct 17, 2026 against the organizer page. Single-event tickets like this are the cheapest way to try a room.
Before you pay, confirm four things with the organizer
The chosen offering, the checkout total, the cancellation terms, and the refund terms. Cost records show conflicts and unknowns. The organizer's current page is the authority.
